But the Neo Geo was originally an arcade system, and apparently it's not rare for arcade systems to use "weird" vertical refresh rates (they could, because arcade monitors are more tolerant than consumer TV sets). For example, one of the links mention that R-Type runs on ~55 Hz, halfway between NTSC and PAL.
