I’ve been bouncing between mounting options and full sync clients on my M1 Air too, and battery life is my biggest concern. Sounds like pCloud’s mount stays pretty lean when idle, which is exactly what I’m looking for. Quick question though: do you use the “Smart Sync” / virtual drive mode, or do you keep everything fully downloaded locally? And if you’re on spotty Wi-Fi, does Finder ever get stuck or show the spinning beach ball when it can’t reach the cloud? Trying to figure out how reliable it feels day-to-day compared to something like the native Dropbox or OneDrive clients. Appreciate any extra details!

Good point about the difference coming down to polling frequency and cache handling rather than the mount being inherently heavy. From what’s been shared, pCloud seems to keep background activity low until there’s actual file interaction, which helps on M1/M2 hardware where idle power matters. The uptick during large transfers or unstable connections is pretty much expected behavior for any network filesystem. Clean Finder integration without noticeable lag or constant re-indexing is definitely a plus over some of the heavier sync daemons. Sounds like it’s striking a decent balance for daily use.

I've run into similar quirks with cloud mounting on my M1 MacBook Air. For me, it really depends on how much the app is polling or handling cache in the background—some tools feel lighter than running separate sync clients that constantly scan everything. I switched to pcloud mac a while back after getting fed up with bloated official apps draining resources, and honestly, it hasn't hit my battery as hard as I feared. It runs pretty quietly most of the time, only really waking up when I'm actively moving files around. No huge performance dips either; Finder treats the mounts like normal drives without much lag. That said, if I'm on spotty Wi-Fi or transferring big batches, yeah, I see a bit more power use, but it's way better than having multiple sync daemons fighting for attention. Just my two cents from daily use.
