INTERVIEW :
Q: Firstly, can you confirm the title of the game you have in development.
R: The game is called Geo-Xtreme and is a GPS based sports game with video games mixed in to vary the way it is played and to attract the 'video game generation'.
Q: Is this a self published title or are you under contract?
R: This is a self developed title, but at this moment we are unsure who the publisher will be - Either Gizmondo or a 3rd party publisher.
Q: Please give a brief description of the main aspect of the game regarding character and/or machine involvement and what aspects have been hardest to implement?
R: Geo-Xtreme is a GPS sports game with players interacting with the game by moving around their real world locations to reach specified locations shown on the Gizmondo console, which can relate to capturing flags or participating in video game sports events played on the console.
How often have you argued with your friends about who's the fittest or the fastest? With the Geo-Xtreme game you can finally find out as you race against your friends or against time to reach the locations shown on the console. Anything goes, go by foot, bike, skateboard or anything that moves to get to reach them.
We will use pretty much every part of the console to bring the best out in the game! This is one of the reasons why we were so excited to be able to develop for the console. The GPS abilities brings in a whole new genre of gaming, now players can go out and interact with their environments, Geo-Xtreme is just the start in a long process of evolving GPS based games!
I would say the hardest thing to implement is the maps. These are real maps of you real world location, no matter where you are. So if you're playing in London you'll see where you are in London, if you're in the middle of the Ardennes Forest it will show you a map of the surrounding area, all of this in 3D!
Q: What should we be looking forward to most about this game?
R : Been able to play out in the open, no walls to stop you. Currently games make you sit in your room, in front of the TV and that's it, with the Geo-Xtreme game and the Gizmondo you can now play in the open, against other players, interacting in the game's virtual world by moving around in the real world.
Q: How is development coming along?, have you encountered any troubles with the SDK and/or are Gizmondo helping you at all during this process?
R: Gizmondo has been great and provided everything we need. The team really helps out in any way they can. We are about 15% into the project, so still early days yet!
Q: Have you taken into account any of the Gizmondo's 'special features' i.e GPS, GPRS, Camera, MMS etc.
R: Geo-Xtreme uses everything that the Giz has to offer. GPS, GPRS and Bluetooth are all used to play the game along with that awesome Nvidia graphics chipset.
Q: What sort of performance have you been able to get out of the Nvidia GoForce 3D 4500 chipset inside the Gizmondo, how does it compare to other 3D handsets you may have developed for?
R: We haven't been able to push the Nvidia chipset very hard at the moment as we are still in the early stages of development, but don't worry, we will be doing so in the development of the game!
Q: Is the game due out this year? And have you been set a strict schedule for completion or were you given a relaxed time frame to get a AAA title to market?
R: We hope the game to be available late Q4 2005 / early Q1 2006, however there is a big BUT in this. Be prepared to see the game a lot sooner! Unlike any previous console game we have taken this one step further and are happy to announce the up and coming Geo-Xtreme Tournament event! This is a real world event with professional and amateur athletes taking part in a sports event which uses the Geo-Xtreme software and Gizmondo as the central point for how the event works.
More news will be available soon on this - but our tentative date for the first event is October. We are in final talks regarding a location. More details can be found at our dedicated website - www.geoxtreme.com which will be up and running soon.
Q: Try to sell us the game in 10 words.
R: Fast, fun, action packed interactive gaming in the real world!
Q: Is the game exclusive to Gizmondo, or is it a multiformat title? If so, how does each compare to the Gizmondo version?
R: The game will be exclusive to Gizmondo, although in time a PDA version of the game may be available. Unfortunately many of the games features and graphical looks will be lost on this format as the graphics capabilities are inferior to that on the Giz.
Q: Lastly, if you had the chance to port one title to the Gizmondo, what would that title be and why!?
R: That's so tough! I'm a pretty dedicated FPS gamer, but I would love to see some fighting games like you find on the traditional consoles. Maybe Tekken or Soul Calibur? Lots of button basing, but with Bluetooth we can still have multiplayer!
Well thanks for taking the time out and answering some questions for us, we look forward hearing more about the game very soon along with the first screenshots!
