GapiDraw Goes Palm
Posted on Monday, March 22 @ 03:42:41 GMT by Prophet

GapiDraw, a well known graphics SDK for Pocket PC, has been updated to support Palm OS devices, including those with 480x320 displays like the Zodiac!

Over 140 Pocket PC games and apps have been developed using GapiDraw so far, including games like Fire Power: Onrush (pictured above) from ManaiSoft, EverQuest 3 & Tower Mogul. Hopefully GapiDraw's move to Palm OS will result in more quality games for the Zodiac.

The homepage describes GapiDraw as "the fastest, most advanced, and easiest to use graphics library for Stationary PCs, Smartphones and Handheld Computers! GapiDraw is individually optimized for each system platform, providing features such as hardware blitter support, surfaces with variable transparency, bitmapped fonts, rotozoom, real-time tint and colorization effects, and much more. With over 140 games and applications based on GapiDraw released so far, GapiDraw can be considered something of a de facto standard for creating applications with high demands on graphics performance for mobile devices."

Et voici un exemple de jeu réalisé avec ce SDK sur Pocket PC :

Hi all, I'm the lead developer of GapiDraw...

GapiDraw is a cross-platform game SDK written in C++. Basically you can write games on your stationary PC (using DirectX acceleration for performance), and then simply recompile the game using Codewarrior and it will run on the Zodiac. Or you could recompile it for the Pocket PC or Symbian devices. Performance-wise GapiDraw serves as a "bridge" on devices with hardware acceleration (such as stationary PCs and the Zodiac). So you will get native performance on such systems (i.e. same speed as TWgfx) once we have the support built-in. The advantage of using GapiDraw is that you can make the game run on all handheld devices very easily, with no compromises in performance.

We will be adding the following features shortly:
-Support for PRCTools
-Support for TWgfx

Right now we have support for resizable displays such as on the T3 (if you resize the display - the game screen will resize as well). And more Palm-specific features are on its way. Look out for Warlords III on your Zodiac shortly (running GapiDraw) - http://www.ppcstudios.com/
