Is it possible to do that, like on a gameboy?
My console had the polarized film damaged. I replaced it with a linear one and the image is bad. SO i removed everything from the screen and used a ds lite backlight. In "regular" mode the image is bad too, but if I rotate the film, the image is crisp and nice, but the colors are inverted. So it't possible to use a 74hc04 like on a gameboy?

I think it may be possible, but I'm not aware of anybody having done it... And the WonderSwan is much more compact than the classic Gameboy: there's little free space inside, and the screen connector pitch is very small.

Just in case, there are a few info here about the screen, but it's in French, the pictures are broken, and it's about the WS Color:

Thank you. From the link you provided : "A*,B*,C*,D* = data pour chaque driver de lignes."
So there are 4 lines that needs to be inverted.
The pitch is not that bad. The traces between the ASWAN and the LCD connector have vias, so you only need to solder wires to one side. And i think a SO chip will fit.
The problem is that i don't know which are the lines that needs to be inverted.

Some pictures have been archived here:

Keep in mind, this is for the WS Color. The original WS screen may be different.
Also, the WS uses a 3.3 V power supply, so a 74HC04 won't do. You need a 74LVC04 or something similar.

I've checked the pictures, but I'm lost. It's way different for the monochorme. It would be easier if someone made a pinout of the lcd.
But i'm correct when I say I need to invert 4 lines? Or there are only 2 like on gb? Or there are more?
And from the 74HC04 datasheet:
"]The 74HC04 provides provides six independent inverters with standard push-pull outputs. The device is designed for operation with a power supply range of 2.0V to 6.0V. "

The connector has18 pins. So far i've got:
2=-6.9v
3=-6.9v
4=1.5v
5=9.9v
6=9.9v
11=3v
12=gnd
13=3v
17=1.5v

Sorry, I don't know. The WS is a pretty niche console, especially outside of Japan, and it's possible you're the first one to look into this. There was a small hacking scene in Japan in the early 2000s, but since the webpages are in Japanese they are difficult to find (if they still exist in the first place).

Your best bet is using an osciloscope or a logic analyzer to figure out the signals.

Yeah you're right, I was thinking of the 74HCT04.

Sadly I don't have them.
Here's how is looking so far:

In the photo has a green tint, but in real life it doesn't.
I'm using a dsl backlight powered by an external 12v
On the bottom of the screen there's a linear film. On top there's a circular film at 45 degree (from a gb pocket if i remember correctly).

I'm afraid it's not possible to go much further without using an oscilloscope or logic analyzer, or finding some who already did some reverse-engineering on the WS monochrome screen.

Have you tried other kinds of polarized film? Maybe there's one that will work with the screen as-is.

I've tried a few films from monitors, psp and some from aliexpress. All are the same. The image will be green, like on gameboy. And it's bad.
And all my 4 consoles have the front polarizer burned by sun. It's impossible to find circular polarizer at a decent price.
