The Irish were left stunned on St Patrick’s day as France again stole victory and the crown of 2007 Champions in the final minutes of play. The Irish defeated Italy 51 – 24 setting France the task of beating Scotland by 24 points to secure the crown. With minutes to go in the match in Paris the Scots put the Irish at the top of the table with a late try, but Frenchman Elvis Vermeulen secured the championship for the French with a controversial [meuh non... ] try in injury time, only awarded after consultation with the Irish television match official Simon McDowell.
