Greetings!

This turn our warrior Murdock has made contact with your warrior Pendragon.

We would like to meet and chat with your team about business and relations amongst the other teams on this very crowded island.

We have The Wheel and Warrior Code to trade to your team. We will also shortly have Masonry, but we're unsure if you have that or not.

Our team is a purely mercenary team, which means we're for hire for virtually any deal you'd like to make. We'd be happy to talk with you more about that, when you are interested.

For now, we'd be happy to exchange information or anything else

Dear Mercs,

This is with a curious benevolence that we discover you on our continent, a very crowed one as you said. Anyway, welcome on board ! We're a peaceful civilization and hope to have good links with you, even if of course we understand that your specific activity might one day see our forces fight eachother. But those times haven't come and will hopefully never come. We took note of your offers and will maybe in the future call the proud vikings on our side.

Concerning Techs, we have nothing to trade so far but are searching the knowledge of masonry. Maybe could we study an eventual tech coordination program, along with the Feudal Team, that is, we understood, already involved in this kind of cooperation with you ?

"Concerning Techs, we have nothing to trade so far but are searching the knowledge of masonry. Maybe could we study an eventual tech coordination program, along with the Feudal Team, that is, we understood, already involved in this kind of cooperation with you ?"

We are really interested in finding the path that will be most beneficial to all of the potential customers out there. While there have been some discussions with the Feudals on eventual tech paths, those were made before any other contacts and were never of any concrete nature. We hope to be able to cooperate with all teams equally and to the benefit of all involved. However, we are also currently researching the knowledge of Masonry.

In terms of the eventual military contracts, I would like to make it clear that we will never during the course of the game be sigining contracts of a permanent nature with any team. So, we will not be your ally, nor will we be your enemies ally, and we will not initiate hostilities against you without being hired by one of your enemies. Our intention is to remain neutral and for hire, and only ask to be given that opportunity.

Any questions please feel free to inquire. Also, perhaps a chat between our two nations could be set up to help answer these questions and set up a plan for the sharing of techs? We have members who hold odd hours and those in odd timezones, and can cover a wide range of times for your convenience.

Dear mercs,

Before hiring you, we would like to know what your prices are for :
Pillaging Sumerian tiles
Pillaging 1BC tiles
Attacking the sumerian enkidu and settler stack on its way to north west
selling us warrior code
selling us the wheel

Of course, we ask you to keep all those requests private and not to disclose it.

Thank you,

Hi skidbladnir

I'm sorry for taking so long to reply, I have not been that active lately. But, let me give you some prices:

We would be asking for 2 workers in exchange for the technology refered to as "Writing".

Pillaging Sumerian tiles = 20 gold for any tile we choose; 40 gold for a tile that you choose.

Pillaging 1BC tiles= 20 gold for any tile we choose; 40 gold for a tile that you choose.

As far as attacking units/cities; we will require a flat fee that is due and payable whether or not the attack is successful on the turn after the attempt. The flat fee can be reduced if you are willing to pay an inflated rate (bonus) for a successful attack. The bonus would be a multiple of the flat fee. Each circumstance will require it's own pricing schedule. We welcome you to come forward with work orders for the Mercenary Team as all inquiries are confidential.

A couple of questions for your team:

1. What are you currently researching?

2. What will you research next?

First of all my email address is bigfree1@comcast.net This is why you didn't get a
quicker response from me.

Secondly, you can see that Murdock has already moved and continues his exploration.
I hope he didn't cause to much trouble; he is only a lonely exploring unit. smile

Thirdly, we are researching Map Making right now. Do you know of anyone who has
Math? What government are you looking to change to?

Hi,

The government of Yargos would like to know if it is possible for you to plunder the city of Mecca.
We would like to know the price for each tile you are able to plunder in less than 15 turns.
As for us, we are ready to send some of ours warriors to check the work and to help if needed.
If the 15 turns is too short for you, we would at least ask for an assistance in order to do this job. Perhaps, you can tell us how much does it cost to send a couple of warriors to help ours.

We would like to have an answer as soon as possible since it is really important for our strategy.

Thank you.

Well, I'm sorry, my RL has been keeping me away while I sell the house and move. I haven't had much time to keep up on everything.

The last message I see was a request for pillaging around Mecca in 15 turns. There was supposed to be a response from our side, so, if there hasn't been it is thus:

I'm afraid that we would be unable to complete this in the allotted time, but would be open to the contract at a later time.

As for your question on what it would cost, please refer to our standard pricing list here: http://central.masterzen.net/index.php?showtopic=3577

We are encouraged that you have requested assistance, and hope to be able to assist in your future needs as well.

If it was a new message later than this one, I have not received it.

Greetings members of the Yargos Team,

First, my sincerest apologies for not having seen this pm sooner. I just saw it in my box yesterday.

As for the matter at hand, we would happily be willing to send you Mapmaking in return for code of laws and 10 gold. Oh, how we covet those golden pieces... :$$$ If this is agreeable, we shall send MM along with the next save as accepted, and you can do the same with your end.

We look forward to serving you in any way possible in the future.

Hi Unorthodox,

First, thank you for your answer.
Since Mapmaking is already known by at least the Feudals whereas we are the only one to master the secret of Code of laws, we think that the 10 extra golds is not really justified.
However, we are ready to give you that money if you agree to not distribute the secret of Code of laws. In another words, it is 10 extra gold for a non-exchange agreement.

I hope that it will be ok for you. If it the case, I am ready to send u the Code of Laws in the next turn.

Thank you.

The Mercenary team gladly accepts the non-trade agreement.

Sorry for being short, RL sucks right now.

Réponse des Mercs quant à savoir ce qu'ils voulaient contre la monnaie :

What do you have to offer?

I sent emails and PBEM's to all teams on the subject. We are in need of Horseback Riding for age change soon, any other techs we do not have, we are interested in. As always GOLD is a desire of the Mercenary team. If you are found lacking in these areas, we would consider slave(s) as a part of payment as well.

Hi,

We dont know why u keep refusing the peace.

We only attacked ur units to prevent an attack against. U probably have a contract from Sumer to destroy one of our city but it doesnt prevent u to accept peace with us. .

As stated in the rules, we are suppose to make peace with you in case of you might declare war for a contract. For the same reason, u are suppose to accept peace from us since we just want to prevent an attack.

If u continue to deny our offer, i will have to bring this case to the admin since the spirit of mercenaries is no more respected.

Greetings Honorable Yargos team.

Forgive the informal format, but it is more expedient to relay our position to do it this way.

You're right, it does not specifically require us not to accept peace.

QUOTE

We fully understand you declared war to prevent an attack. That does not obligate us to sign a peace treaty. In fact, in this instance, signing a peace treaty would be negligent on our part as your attack was clearly effective, and thus our contract, which you now know of, is not completed. Thus, technically, we are at war until the contract IS fulfilled. If we were to accept peace, and then declare war again, it could very well be seen as an exploit/violation of the peace deal. If you would like to put it in writing that you understand the peace may very well not stand the full 20 turns and is considered a turn by turn basis, we could work something out. You'll have to forgive me personally for not opening dialog on this situation earlier, I have not been very active in this game lately.

If it makes you feel better, this has exposed a flaw in our contracting system all together, and we are working to correct that for the future. We thank you for your understanding that it was a contract, and for exposing this serious flaw in our system, for as always, this team is really no more than a beta test of the Mercenary concept.

Greetings Lordevil,

I have apparantly lost the ability to access team Mercenary's forum. I cannot see, then, if this has been handled by another member of my team. I was away over the holiday, and just got this email from you. Let me immidiately respond thus:

Had we fulfilled our contract, you would have been offered peace. Your decision from there would be your own, and a continued state of war would have been fully within your rights as far as we are concerned.

As stupid as it sounds, no, the old contract system of team Mercenary did not allow for a failure. Thus the predicament we are in. Look up the standard pricing thread yourself, and you can see that. We've hidden nothing about our contracting policies. It was a complete oversight and will be corrected as soon as I can access Team Mercenary Forums again to post the NEW contracting thread publicly. In the meantime, I'm afraid we are obligated to either fulfill all contracts under the old system OR somehow relieve ourselves of them by working with the contractor and finding suitible means of restitution. We are doing our best to make good on all deals, and would hope they all be converted to the new system as it is more fair to all involved.

Team Mercenary does not intend to remain at war with you, either. We simply intended to get your assurance in writing that you understand our accepting/proposing peace is not a contract that we will not attack you for the 20 turns noted in game. Otherwise THAT could be also construed as an exploit as well. It was completely my negligence not getting with you as soon as everything happened. I wasn't fully aware of the situation, and for that I apologize again. This should have been resolved and finished by now, and it is indeed regrettable that it is not.

We fully agree with that statement. According to us, the 20 turns is not taken in consideration given the status of Team Mercenary.
It is under our understanding that peace is not granted since your mission is not completed and it will let you the possibility to declare war at any time you think appropriate to complete your contract.
For the next time, we would appreciate that you declare war before unloading units on our land.

Thanks for your answer.

Lordevil

20

Greetings.

I am pleased to inform you that we have reached a settlement with the contracting team, removing our responsibilities under the old contracting system. We now have no outstanding contracts to be taken against you, and thus the current peace should be more permanent.

Please review our new contracting system in the public forum here. http://forums.mzocentral.net//index.php?showtopic=14703&st=0&p=174907

As you will see, we no longer will carry contracts against targets. Instead, we will only deliver units to an area of the contractor's desire. We will attempt whatever they wish with those units, but no longer will be required to acheive a specific objective other than getting the units where they are requested. This will prevent the same situation from arising again, we hope.

Team Mercenary thanks you for your understanding of our concept, and for the help you have provided us in refining the process. We hopes our nations can have a profitable future under the new contract system.

Hi,

We really appreciate this new form of contract. We think it is fair and more suitable to the Mercs concept.

We would like to hire at least 3 swordmen, untill 6 if you can. We want you to unload them in 3 turns from now (which means for 510 BC) between Bitum and Ayronis.

Let us know if it possible and the price you want for this job.

Thanks

Lordevil

22

Greetings,

We are pleased that our new contracting policy pleases you.

I have opened the save to be sure, but as I suspected it would be logistically impossible to meat your request in the timeframe requested. As you can see via your trade advisor, we do not even have iron hooked up at the present time. I'ld have to check with Kloreep, our domestic guru if you want an estimate on the earliest it could be done.

Hello,

Thanks for the offer first of all.

Right now, I'm not entirely sure of the precise disposition of our units, however, I believe that if we were to hit the 3 turn mark, our galleys would have to be loaded and move out from our most northern city next turn. I do not know what the numbers are in the area for troops or boats at this time.

I've posted this inquiry on our boards for Kloreep to see, if he doesn't get back to me I'll load up the save and check it myself, but soonest I can do that would be tomorrow.

It looks like the soonest I could put together a minimal party (3 archer, 1- spear) would be landing 5-6 turns. More considerable numbers would probably take some time to accomplish, I'ld have to research it allot deeper.

3 archers and 1 spearman, we will take it. Please, do it asap.
Just tell us how many at when u need to be paid.

Contract #00015 has been signed. If you wish it to remain private after we make all contacts, a nominal fee will need to be added. Otherwise, it will be logged in a public thread along with your name as the hiring party when we have contact with all nations.

We will let you know particulars as soon as possible. You will be notified in advance of our landing, and of the precise tile (unless you indicate a precise tile) in advance so that you may issue orders for any surviving units the following turn. Payment will be due on landing. Battle logs will be kept and delivered to you for all units you hired. Battle Chats can be arranged if possible with respective schedules on your request.

Any questions, feel free to contact me.

They leave this turn, unload next turn. Target tile IIRC is Bitum-9, where any survivors would be able to attack either Bitum or house of Ayronis the following turn.

Just to be perfectly clear. The will leave our shore the upcomming Mercenary turn. They will land the following turn after.

28

4 20 shield Units: 16 gold
(4 gold ea under new pricing plan)
Surcharge for Secrecy in the Medieval Era: 20 Gold

Blaming the attack on someone else: Priceless.

29

Greetings team Yargos.

We are pleased to announce that your units have been delivered to the tile 8 of Bitum. May I assume we are to be attacking Bitum on the next turn?

I have taken the liberty of leaving our ships in the area in anticipation of a need to move any surviving units northward in a turn or two.

Cost of units will be 16 gold. An additional 20 gold if you wish to remain anonymous when our public thread goes up. (once we have all contacts)

A second order of business is also at hand at this time: It would appear we have a new northern neighbor. As such, we are interested in obtaining a border agreement between our two nations. We also believe you have a right to your spoils rightfully won in combat.

You will notice a one tile swamp south of Bitum. We have affectionately called this the fireswamp. Team mercenary would like to settle one city ON that tile. This would mark our northernmost border, and we would ask that you not settle soas to encroach on it's 8-tile radius. Border expansions and etc are understood to not be entirely controllable. Would this deal be agreeable to team Yargos?

UnOrthOdOx
Team Mercenary Representative.

30

Hi,

First, yes you have to attack Bitum next turn. If you manage to kill the defenders and the city stand, you have to send it to us at the end of your turn.

Futhermore, I am not sure to understand where you want to settle your next city. Because if you are speaking of the swamp beside Bitum, does it mean that we have to deny the Bitum spot and moreover we shall have to give up Ayronis in order to respect the radius of your next town ?

I am not sure where we can find our interest in this way.

Lordevil
