Nintendo DS = Project Nitro
Developers confirm that the upcoming handheld has received a new project name.
March 10, 2004 - Earlier this week, Nintendo's password-protected Wario World development site updated with a link to a new "Nitro" game development area, setting the community abuzz speculating that "Nitro" is the new name for the Nintendo DS dual-screen handheld system. We have confirmed with developers that the Nitro is indeed the Nintendo DS' new project name.
Nintendo this morning sent development members an email regarding this name, confirming that the system is "Due to release this Fall." The email continues stating that "the Wario World website is going live with a new Nitro section," and that developers are required "to have signed development deals to gain access."
Project Nitro will most likely not end up being the official name for the system, just as Project Dolphin was not the final name for the GameCube. More details regarding the Project Nitro will be revealed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo this May.
