Migration Mandriva AMD64 vers i586 - Page 1

Je tourne actuellement sur Mandriva spring 2007, AMD64 (vu que mon processeur est un athlon 64 bits, et je voudrais passer à mandriva one 2008, en 32 bits, afin de retrouver une compatibilité un poil plus étendue (entre autres flash et java)

Es-ce que je peux tenter la migration en faisant juste une mise à niveau (ce dont je doute du fait de la présence de paquets 64 bits) ou je dois me fader une réinstallation complète en ayant pris soin de copier mes données persos sur un disque différent de celui qui va recevoir l'install ?

Je lme suis retrouvé dans la même situation que toi et je suis passé par un réinstall. Je doute que l'on puisse simplement passer de la version AMD64 a i586

Effectivement, il faut réinstaller. De plus, normalement, on passe 32->64 bits, tu es en train de faire un pas en arrière là.

Oui je sais que c'est un pas en arrière malheureusement j'ai eu le même problème beaucoup de programmes posent problème en AMD64, et on a pas envie forcement de passer une nuit a chaque fois sur un problème (quand il y a une solution).

Bah pourtant...

Ceci etant dit le 64 bits n'apporte pas beaucoup de gain donc bon...

Bah tu peux toujours trouver des exemples où il y a de gros gains (surtout grâce aux registres supplémentaires), mais c'est vrai que sinon...

J'ai bien sûr essayé de rajouter à la main les screen0 et device0, mais dès que je les ajoute, mon serveur X ne démarre plus. (dernier détail, comment éditer un fichier conf en ligne de commande, parceque pour l'instant, je passe mon temps à botter sur un live CD pour remettre mon serveur X dans la configuration initiale)

C'est un peu plus convivial.

Ca marchera par défaut sur 99% des distribs, ce qui n'est pas le cas des deux précédent.
Par contre si tu connais pas la bête accroche toi car ca à beau être puissant, ca fait un choc. Surtout quand on n'a famais cotoyé que de interface classiques.

on va dire que nano>emacs>vi niveau intutivité d'utilisation. mais les chances qu'il soient inclus par défaut dans ta distrib sont inversement proportionelles

Le post ./8 est une belle preuve supplémentaire que Linux est très loin de Windows niveau simplicité d'utilisation. Je ne veux pas relancer le débat mais montrer un exemple à ceux qui me croient pas quand on aborde le sujet dans d'autres topics.

Martial Demolins (./14) :Thibaut, ce qu'il y a de bien avec un log, c'est qu'on peut corriger les problèmes, et avec les fichiers de conf, on peut paramétrer ce qu'on veut comme en veux.
Win est complètement à la ramasse dans ces deux domaines.

Perso, ça me suffit plus que très largement, et pourtant j'ai rien dans mon xorg.conf...

Bah personnellement, j'ai Windows en machine virtuelle et je redimensionne régulièrement la fenêtre, du coup windows peut très bien se retrouver avec une résolution de 943x813

Sinon, ce que le ./8 montre, c'est un problème avec Mandriva, pas GNU/Linux en général.

Et enfin, effectivement, le temps des résolutions à rentrer en dur dans xorg.conf est passé.

sinon, au delà de tout ça, quand j'installe le driver fournit par nvidia, je me retrouve avec un léger conflit (qui empêche le démarrage de X), je tourne actuellement avec le driver "Module: ‎Card:NVIDIA GeForce FX - GeForce 8800" alors que mon matériel est :

Le souci, si je suis tout bien ce qui se passe sur ma machine, c'est que le module compilé par le joujou de NVidia s'appelle nvidia, au même titre que celui déjà présent avec l'installation. Ensuite, je suis pas persuadé que ce soit tout particulièrement Mandriva, mais plutôt la version courante de X

Et le driver installé par Mandriva (nvidia-current) porte le même numéro de version que celui dispo sur le site NVidia ^^ Je comprends mieux le léger conflit que j'avais pu croiser et aussi l'appellation identique du module

Il ne faut surtout pas installer le pilote avec les scripts du site de NVidia, les paquetages sont proposés pour une raison. Ces scripts écrasent des libs système et peuvent généralement semer le bordel, comme tu viens de le voir d'ailleurs.

Disons qu'auparavant, ce même script ne m'avait pas foutu le bordel ^^, c'est pour ça que je ne me suis pas méfié

Elles sont pas codées en dur, Xorg interroge la carte et l'écran pour savoir ce qu'ils supportent.

Btw, tu utilises quoi pour tes machines virtuelles windows ? Parce que chez moi changer la taille de la fenêtre ne modifie pas la taille de l'écran virtuel.

vmware fusion (j'ai testé avec Parallels Desktop, ça marche pareil)
