I've just started on this project, but here's a screenshot:

TI-83 Plus

TI-84 Plus

Absolute Madness is a pure-BASIC puzzle/action platform game and my zContest contest entry. It's somewhat a sequel to my Absolute Insanity game of nearly two years ago, but this time it features moving enemies, dimension swapping, faster speed, and better graphics. Hope you guys like it!

TODO (in order of importance):

· Powerups and bonus packs
· Saving progress
· Level editor
· More levels
· Menu screen
· High scores
· Storyline

EDIT: How do you make a list in this forum's BBCode?

Really impressive smile
I'm very surprised by the quality of projects you are able to do with only basic (this one and midnight are really incredible !!)
And it's seems very fast...

I've tried to play insane but it's quite difficult (especially on emulator).

That's... the type of game I like ! And that's a good point ! smile
Even though I have no chance to win in TI-Basic category... grin

4

You did not just post this here. :P
Good luck, Deep. You know, even if there were no prizes, everyone wins for this contest bringing out some great games. grin

Thanks! My goal is to stuff it with as many features as possible while keeping the speed playable.

Yeah, the controls in AbsIns take a while to get used to.

But don't worry: keypress detection is already much faster and more accurate in Absolute Madness! smile

That's what's always great about contests. They're such great motivators for game designers, and every time the calculator community holds one, there's sure to be a ton of new games to play. And Midnight is definitely something I'm looking forward to playing.

By the way, the smileys here are awesome pam

You can add a lot of feature because it's very fast currently smile

I think it's really playable on calc.
On emulator, in AbsIns the keypress haven't an quick visual feedback, so it's hard to know if you've really press a key or not.
I would say, move to the right or the left isn't done immediatly but only when you change the vertical y position.
But If I try more than 3 times, I'm quite sur to be able to win some levels tongue

I added boulders! You can push them around, squish enemies with them, and get crushed by them grin

New screenies coming soon.

EDIT: Here it is! This is half a level in which I kill an enemy with a boulder, grab a bonus pack, and use the boulder as a platform on which to land among the spikes so I can get past that section. Notice that my point counter gets a fifth of a heart when I grab the bonus; five bonuses and you get an extra life.

Updated screenshot

This is real speed on a TI-84 Plus, by the way.

Yes, but since this particular section is graphics-intensive, it's not that much slower on a 83 than on an 84. Here's the screenshot on a TI-83 Plus.

16

And here's my first complete level, huzzah. Thirty more or so and I'm done!

17

Good luck with those! So far it looks nice.

It has been finished! Twenty-one levels, saving/loading, high scores, full level editor, Easter eggs, and other stuffs ^^

Final version comes December 1st!

20

Wow, congrats! In your first post you mentioned something about a storyline, ... do you want to expand any on that? Does the game really follow a story?

21

If I have time, I may add a short graphical introduction to the beginning. It'll follow the main character of AbsIns as he takes part in an "experiment" created by his psychiatrist in his explorations of the "third dimension" smile

Great, this will be a surprise grin

23

The biggest thing I have yet to implement is the high-score system and a win scene. How important do you think they are to this game?

24

Added a short intro scene. It's a bit random, but that's the most effort I've ever put into an intro scene lol

25

Really beautiful.
Nice job smile

26

Thanks smile I've submitted it to tiforge -- it's done!

Here's my final screenshot:
