So, history repeats itself and it is not difficult to see why Gordon Brown did not provide governmental support to secure a HBOS [bank of scotland] / RBS [royal bank of scotland] merger that would create a mega-bank with headquarters in Scotland.
He did however bail out the Northern Rock with some £60 billion of taxpayers money when called to help an English based bank.
And next, given half a chance Mr Brown and his ilk would dearly love to see the RBS taken over by another London based bank.
