An absolute ’Must Have’
Listen, if you’ve got one of the new ’slimline’ type PS2’s but
haven’t got one of these monitors I promise you - you’ve only
got half a console. It fits together seamlessly, like a glove,
which makes it look and feel like a small laptop PC (nothing
like those clonky old things they brought out for the original
PS2’s). The crystal clear 8" screen gives a superb picture for
both games and movies - plug it into the car cigarette lighter
and you won’t hear a murmur out of the kids for hours :-) All
we need now is a good sized rechargable battery (like you can
get for the Gamecube) and I don’t think you’d ever bother
using your PSP again.....
Mobile PlayStation 2 gaming has never looked this good.

As mentioned, the screen touts a 640x480 resolution which puts
it well above most other screens on the market. As such,
images are quite sharp and fine text that is usually
unreadable on other portable monitors comes through very
nicely on the screen. Looking back at the sharpness of other
portable monitors we've tried, they just cannot hold a candle
to this screen.
That said, while the image sharpness is great, it's not
perfect. There's still a bit of pixelization that happens with
finer, angled details. This is most evident on still frames or
objects that aren't moving about like in an options menu or
still shot in a movie, though it's still very reasonable for a
portable screen of any sort. It seems as if the translation
from the PlayStation 2's video output isn't exactly
one-for-one with the screen so there's a bit of adjusting that
needs to make the image fill the screen correctly. Again, it's
still very good for a portable PlayStation 2 screen, but don't
expect HD quality video out of it.

Conclusion
Joytech's 8" Digital LCD Monitor is a fantastic portable
screen for the PStwo. It features a great-looking 640x480
screen that's a healthy 8" in size. Fine text is much easier
to read on this screen than any other we've tested, and those
noticeable details carry throughout the entire image. When you
count the built-in SRS, dual headphone jacks, IR port and
remote control as well as its on-screen controls, well, you
have a hell of a product.
