Making DivX movie for GPDivX0.02 tutorial!
Things to prepare : Virtualdub, DivX Codec 4.12, Multicon & Subtitler(for foreign stuff)
Virtualdub DL link:
http://bbs.crezio.com/bbs/CrazyWWWBoard.cgi?db=tvintouch1&mode=download&num=2897&file=VirtualDub-1_4_10.zip
Divx Codec 4.12 DL link:
http://bbs.crezio.com/bbs/CrazyWWWBoard.cgi?db=tvintouch1&mode=download&num=2897&file=DivX412Codec.exe
Multicon DL link :
http://user.chollian.net/~ddagoor1/multicon.exe
Subtitler DL link :
http://user.chollian.net/~ddagoor1/Subtitler.vdf
So, lemme explain what these things do.
Virtualdub - A popular tool used to encode Avi format. (required)
DivX Codec 4.12 - GPDivX plays Avi only encoded by 4.12. of course required.
Multicon - Transforms Smi(subtitle) file formats to SSA since Virtual dub does not support Smi formats... yet.
Subtitler - A plugin for Virtual dub. Allows you to apply SSA files on the video.
Alright, are you ready to encode?
Lets try encoding FFX TV commercial so it can run on GP32.
FFX TVCM DL Link data.ruliweb.com:
http://data.ruliweb.com:8080/data02/ff10intertvcm01.mpg
Goto- File - open video file- and open the file you just downloaded. (FFX TVCM)

pic 2---
And... Yes... Yes!!! You've loaded the file!!!..... (Cough)
There are more to Virtual dub than you might think but since our final objective is to run
this file on GP32, I'll only go through the very core of what's needed.

pic 3---
Goto- Video - Filters. there are Hotkeys available... but ill leave it upto you to use them...
cause i dont :P

pic4---
Resize - Yes... this allows you to resize the resolution of the video. For now you dont need to touch that since FFX movie you've got right now is 320 by 240.
Rotate - you can rotate the video with this. select "right by 90 degrees"

pic 5---
alright, now lets try putting some subtitles on the video. it's not necessary but it may come
in handy when you wanna encode anime and stuff.
SMI file (korean)
http://bbs.crezio.com/bbs/CrazyWWWBoard.cgi?db=tvintouch1&mode=download&num=2895&file=ff10intertvcm01.smi
once SMI's downloaded, move them to the folder Multicon is, and run Multicon.

pic6---
alright do you see a windows just like pic 6?
then you type the file name of subtitle you have.
but since DOS doesn't support long file names, you will have to rename the subtitle
file.
rename it to "FF10.SMI"
and then go back to multicon and do what ive told you to do. type the name of the file
and press enter.

pic7---
if you typed it correctly, it should display menu just like on pic 7.
since it's SSA you want to change the file into, goto menu 3.
and then they ask you something but just ignore it and hit enter.
after that, you will see that FF10.SSA file has been created.
you can just insert this file as it is but to make it look alot better,
ill tell you how to modify few things.
open SSA file with notepad.

pic8---
you can change the font type by editing the part that's highlighted in the text.
the part where it says "arial" is font type.
on that line, there is number 16. that's the number for font size. by default, it's 12, but
has been modified.
and 7th digit from right (the number 3) is outline size for the subtitle.
2 or 3 is good enough.
if everything is done go back to virtual dub.

pic9---
when you see this screen, click "add"

pic 10---
then you will see this.(pic 10)
and then load up the SSA file you've just created.

pic 11---
you can preview your stuff thru show preview function.
press ok till you go back to the main screen of virtual dub.

pic12---
lets try using DivX 4.12

pic13---
Goto-Video-Compression

pic 14---
highlight Divx codec 4.12 and press configure button on the right.

pic 15---
now they're gonna show you a screen like this...
you need not use stuff like sbc and stuff so for variable, choose 1-pass
its better if performance/quality is low so select "slowest"
and below that, there's Output video bitstream. this determines the quality of the video.
it may look very choppy and crappy and whatever you call it when you select "50", but it looks great on GP32, so don't worry.
choose from 25 to 60 as you want the video quality to be, and press ok.
other menues might prove important for playing videos on GP32 but... it's up to you to research and explore all the possibilties... cause i haven't... (cough)
press ok all the way till main menu

pic16---
go check file information. they are important in this process.

pic17---
alright, lets analyze stuffs you see on pic 17.
frame size is how big yer video file is,
FPS means frames per second.
320 by 240 is the frame size and FPS looks to be around 29.970
others arent so important...
close the info window.

pic18---
goto-Video-frame rate

pic19---
This menu changes the frame rate.
No change means... ehem, no change to frame rate.
change to ~~ frames per second changes frame rate but will differ with
sound timings if done so. so dont touch that stuff.
what you want to use is frame rate decimation.
process all frames means... ehem, no change to frame rate.
and below decimates frame rates so it can run on GP32 smoothly.
decimation by 2 means it will divide the frame rate by half. so since the frame rate of
this video file is 29.970, the result will come to 14.985.
but since 14 frame is still too much for GP32 (for now. Gpdivx is not optimized...)
we will use decimation by 3. (if you wish to further decimate, you can use the box to
type in any number you want)
and after done, goto audio menu.

pic 20---
goto-audio-full processing mode
and goto audio menu again,

pic 21---
goto conversion

pic 22---
When in GPdivx0.00~0.01 we could select Custom and type in 5333 or 5222 but in
gpdivx0.02 , it will cause a high pitched sound, so just select 11025Hz.
well, if you don't wanna, i can't stop it nor sue you, so go ahead and explore.
goto-audio-interleaving

pic 23---
alright, you will see a screen just like in pic 23.
since you divided the frame rate by 3, type in 3 on "interleave audio every ~~ frames"
and press ok.
note: encoding a video single time is not sufficient for best video quality. try different settings and find what's best for it.

pic 24---
well.. the face is little wicked, but that's how the original video quality was... so dont worry
but we should rather worry about that awkward little piece of subtitle. if we tried to view that video on GP32 as it is... of course it wont display it right.
so lets try changing it.
goto - video- filters

pic25---
highlight the subtitle setting and press move up.
