Hi there,


my name is Marco, i'm an italian programmer (mainly Java honestly) and i'm a Neo Geo addicted as you smile

Recently, mostly due to the great help of HPMAN and his DatLib, i managed to approach Neo Geo developing.

It's nothing special i know, but i do want to improve my skills: i'm trying to understand Assembly to get benefits from guides i found, which for the majority seems to be tech spechs than real programming manuals...and its hard task to accomplish indeed!

If somebody has some hint to share, especially for sound and fix layers, or just to talk about Neo Geo developing, don't hesitate to contact me smile
I know my work isn't refined as recent games like Knight's Chance or Crouching Pony....but i've made everything with maximum goodwill smile

And, honestly, i'm excited to develop something for the Neo Geo!!!

Hi,

nice - there is a lot of work in your project. chapo

I like the moving animations of the player ship and of the enemies. I need to add this to my game too.
I would suggest to reduce the the size of the sprites a bit to have more space for additional enemies on the screen.

For adding sound to your game - try to ask Jeff Kurtz for his "Neo Sound Builder" tool (neobitz.com). Alternatively, there
is a tool called "MVS tracker" http://www.filewatcher.com/m/MVS%20Tracker%20v0.6c.rar.202703-0.html but I haven't tried it yet.

For the fix layer - I also have no solution for it, hopefully HPman will add custom fix layer support to his Datlib in the future.

i really appreciate your words of encouragement! And i'm impressed genuine love for the Neo Geo that emerges from what writes who contacted me!

Now my major problems are:

- P rom size: i exceeded it...trying to do bankswitch...
- Layer Fix: i'm just trying to get better by reading the Wiki
- Sound: I've already tried to disturb Mr Kurtz searching for advice of any kind (^ - ^)

Yes i do know that i could reduce size of the sprites...but this demo-game is the test case i need to gather enough knowledge on all the arguments to make a next decent game withouth any obstacle.

To be honest shoot-em-up is not my favourite game style, actually i would like to make some typical arcade platform or beat-em-up one day: so i'm quite sure that the P size wouldn't fit the single P rom size.....

And you know what? i adore making BIG sprites smile

Now i'm drawing an huge boss...i hope to solve as soon as possible the p size problem....God knows...

And...i always have time to create smaller 1-hit-destroy enemies !!
